Spheres Series

Spheres are fascinating, and I've been working on some ideas where the movement of particles is mapped onto the surface of a sphere. Sadly, the mathematics necessary for such an operation is eluding me: the conversion from 2D to 3D positions means that the distance from the equator, or the proximity to the pole, stretches movement laterally, and any particles that cross over the pole itself have to negate their longitude and calculate a new longitude.
Fortuitously, however, even as I struggle with the mathematics necessary to achieve my original vision, I've been able to explore a variety of sphere-based artworks, culminating in an iterative sphere generator which creates spheres from spheres made from spheres, and so on…
